Heirlooms

When Grandma L moved out of the home she'd lived in most of her life, she invited her children and grandchildren to come by and take whatever they wanted. It was practical, yes, but it was also generous. People took what mattered to them, and I know it gave Grandma happiness to see those items go to people who would treasure them.

I'm in a different spot. A fire over a decade ago left me with relatively few family items, and the family is scattered enough that an in-person sorting session isn't realistic. So this page is my version of what Grandma did for us.

These are family items currently in my care from both sides of my family, plus a couple of items from my own childhood. As John and I are getting older, we've decided to offer these items to family members instead of just storing them. Every item has meaning, and we'd like to give extended family members the option of having these items now instead of waiting until after we've passed away.

I’ll be uploading things as my schedule permits. If something here interests you, email me, and we'll figure out the details. If nothing calls out to you, that's fine. I’ll find good homes for everything this summer.

** Please note that I’m using my Grandmother’s first initials. Yes, this page is hidden and behind a password…but, better to be safe than sorry!

Aluminum double-boiler | Midcentury

I don’t remember Grandma J using this, but the bottom pot shows that it was heavily used.

Hand-crocheted baby blanket

This is one of my favorites in my collection. I still remember Grandma L handing this to me with a small smile. I’d love for someone who is expecting (or expecting to be expecting) to have this.

I call this Schrödinger’s Heirloom because, for a very long time, I thought this was Grandma L’s toaster. I’d packed it away
